| The Kingfisher Bus and Coach Company came about in October 1989 following the break up of the original Redline partnership between Stan Pemberton and Mick Elkins. Mick Elkins formed the new Kingfisher and took over all of the Redline operations using a fleet of 7 former West Midlands Travel R-registered Leyland Fleetlines. The vehicles entered service in the white livery they arrived in. During 1992 the Company had problems with vehicle maintenance which led to both a temporary suspension of service and a reduction in service frequency. During this time a number of former West Midland Travel Volvo Ailsa vehicles were hired in to cover the services. To improve the vehicle appearance all seven Fleetlines had blue added to the lower deck area of each vehicle. The end of Kingfisher bus operation finally came on 30 January 1993. The company continued to run coaches until April 2002 when the remaining operation was sold to Dudley’s Coaches. |
